NAMB, FAMB, FLMPA, and NFMP FAQ’s

Who is FLMPA?
FLMPA is the Florida Mortgage Professionals Association. The FLMPA is a non-profit organization established in Florida to promote education and government advocacy for individuals of the mortgage profession.

Why was FLMPA formed?
The National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) had a long-term affiliation with the Florida Association of Mortgage Brokers (FAMB). In order to be a member of NAMB you must be a member of the state affiliate association, which was the FAMB.

On September 6, 2008, the FAMB Board of Directors voted to end its State Affiliation Agreement with NAMB. As a result NAMB members that reside in Florida no longer had access to their NAMB benefits such as the Lending Integrity Seal of Approval, NAMB education courses, and legislative lobby days. Since FAMB and NAMB could not renegotiate the State Affiliate Agreement, the only way to restore NAMB benefits to its Florida members was to create a new state association, the FLMPA. The FLMPA is now the official Florida State Affiliate of the NAMB.

Do I have to be a member of FLMPA?
If you intend to remain a member of NAMB and/or utilize the benefits of NAMB, then you MUST be a member of FLMPA. If you choose to be a member of FLMPA, then you will automatically be a member of NAMB.

Am I already a member of the FLMPA?
If you are currently a member of NAMB, then you have been granted a membership in the FLMPA through your next renewal date. To find out your renewal date, visit
the FLMPA member page.

How much are my dues for the FLMPA?
To join or renew, your combined FLMPA/NAMB dues are currently $120 total for all membership levels.

Can I maintain a membership with FAMB?

Yes. You may maintain your membership with FAMB if you choose to do so. NAMB has 35 years of history and relationships in Washington, DC. NAMB is well positioned in all of the agencies and individuals that have an impact on Federal legislation, regulation, and rule making regarding the mortgage and housing industry.

Who is the NFMP?

The NFMP is the National Federation of Mortgage Professionals. The NFMP is the new federal organization created by FAMB to lobby the US Congress in Washington, DC. The NFMP officers are comprised of the current FAMB executive committee, Valerie Saunders, Richard Peek, Jon Turla, Carl Noriega, and Ritch Workman.

I paid my NAMB membership along with my FAMB membership when I came up for renewal.
Did NAMB receive my dues?
If you paid your dues and received your new NAMB membership card, you are a member of both FLPMA and NAMB until the expiration date on your NAMB membership card. If you did not receive your new NAMB card, please email us and we will verify that your NAMB dues were received and send you a new NAMB membership card. Please contact us at
info@flmpa.net.

If
board member of FAMB is also a board member of the FLMPA, is that a conflict of interest?
No. FLMPA is made up of mortgage brokers and other professionals such as title company and wholesale lender representatives, loan originators, appraisers, etc. all of whome fight for small business. this is no different than the members of the Florida Association of Realtors and the Women's Council of Realtors. Multiple associations can share the same vision and same cause. Similarly, the NFMP has no issue or conflict with NAMB. There is no conflict on the federal front and there is no conflict on the state front.

NAMB, NFMP, FAMB, FLMPA – What is the net effect?
CHOICE. This whole thing revolves around one word: reciprocity. In order to be a member of NAMB, you must be a member of the state affiliate, which for the last 35 years, was FAMB. (See #2 above.) The FAMB Board of Directors wanted to remove reciprocity from the renewal of the State Affiliate Agreement and NAMB did not want to remove reciprocity. After months of trying to work it out, a compromise could not be reached.

We see the FLMPA as the workaround. NAMB now has a new state affiliate—FLMPA—whose members will belong to both the state affiliated association (FLMPA) and the national association (NAMB). FAMB now has the ability to serve its membership without the requirement of NAMB membership, which is what the FAMB Board of Directors wanted for their membership. You can be a member of FAMB/NFMP, FLMPA/NAMB, both groups, or none. The choice is yours.
